The move by the anti-Buhari protesters to continue with their ‘Resume or Resign’ street protest in Abuja, was yesterday aborted as anti-riot policemen invaded the Millennium Park, where the protesters had gathered to mobilise for the second day march to the Presidential Villa.
The protesters, who convened under the aegis of “Our Mumu Don Do”, were prevented from going beyond the Unity Fountain, which was the take-off ground.
The armed policemen, who stormed the place in several patrol vans, fired several canisters of tear gas at the protesters, forcing them to scamper for safety in different directions. In the confusion, one of the leaders of the group, Charles Oputa (Charlie Boy) fainted after inhaling fumes from the tear gas, while some members of the group were brutalised by the police.
